Antigone
In Antigone Creon seems to hold the idea that everything (including divine law) is
subordinate to the state. Creon proclaims “Anarchy -/show me a greater crime in all the
earth”(94,752-753). Creon later realizes that there may be things more important than the

go in order to obtain it. An especially important issue given our ongoing “war on
terrorism”. Antigone dealt with a society in which Church and state are not separated. If
Church is truly separated from the state in our society is there anything more important
than the state? Probably.
