The loyalists contributed to the growing interest in politics, the increased use of the abundance of natural resources and also a continued loyalty to the British. Loyalty to mother England was still necessary as the loyalists had merely created the foundations of what still had to develop into the independent Canada, but it was not as much “the roughest land I ever saw” .
