Although we gained land from sea to shining sea, this was not the main cause that stirred the War... that can be accounted to Mexico's repeated attacks against borders of Texas, and claim to land that should have been settled in the Treaty of Velasco. All in all, the Mexican War provided one of the ways Henry David Thoreau exercised his acts of civil disobedience, and firmly stood up for his beliefs.
