He smells the scent of apples; senses the strangeness of the world as it seems to the overtired worker. One of Frost’s best examples of tone occurs in “After Apple-Picking.” In this poem Frost extends his symbolism further and achieves more intensity, than is usual for him. But to demonstrate this is to indicate that the poem is in reality a symbolist poem (Brooks 3).
