Even though Yossarian always wanted the best for the military his survival was the most
important thing to him. Yossarian first came to this conclusion when he realizes that war
is for real. Snowden’s death had a great impact on his life. At the beginning of the story

a Catch-22.
Yossarian’s main goal in the military is to survive. The examples given of him
faking sick. His attempt to insure safety by moving the bomb lines back. Finally his only
mission when he goes up in a plane is to come down alive. From our point of views
Yossarian’s actions might have been cowardly or chicken-hearted but we have no room
to judge unless we have experienced war for our selves.
