Lenin Did managed to revive the economy but did compromise on his own ideology to achieve his goal of saving his beloved revolution. Although pressured to compromise I believe he could of stuck to War communism if he wanted to by enforcing it with the red army. But he chose the realistic option and reformed. Lenin because of this was a realist
