It would have been easy for Jane to enter society now with her respectability and money, however, she chooses to retreat instead with Rochester and lead a peaceful life at Ferndean. It would seem that Ferndean is the one place with no skeletons, and a place where Jane and Rochester can live equally and in peace with each other.
