On this line of reasoning, there was no one 'idol', and most, if not all, of the descriptions given by Templars under interrogation are correct, but were deliberately twisted by their prosecutors. Ironically, this supports the idea that the Templars did involve heads - or head-shaped images - in some of their ceremonies, maybe even those of (or more accurately those believed to be of) Hugues de Payens and John the Baptist.
