However, when the moment to show his allegiance to Scotland came, he allowed his ego to take over. The very basis of Jacobitism, the return to Scotland, was pushed into the background and he went to claim the English crown. Because the Scottish people realised this, they lost hope, inspiration, and therefore, the battle.
