The differences in these cultures almost destroyed our nation. Some argue it was inevitable and necessary. If the South had not become the wealthiest of our growing nation at its early stages, they would never have joined the quest for independence from Britain. Unfortunately, their wealth would never have been achieved if not for the enslavement of Africans.
