The main idea of the short story is about a boy and his family. They have a very hard winter, their father is sick in bed from a flu. They had a bad harvest this autumn, and have almost nothing to eat. They are striving to survive; the mother decides to make baskets. The main character then sells them in town. …showed last 75 words of 954 total…The author's purpose for writing this short story is I think to tell of some childhood experience that he had before. It was to tell a story similar to his family's, and the small boy - narrator, was probably him in the real life. He probably also wanted the story to be interesting, and at the same time, something from his life. So he took a part of his life and changed it into a story.
